Hotel Residencial Americana

This Hotel is bang in the centre of old town Funchal. It offers basic accomodation with no frills. It is clean and well maintained and is perfectly adequate for a city break. It offers exceptional value for money !

The check in procedures are a little difficult, as there is no receptionist or even reception. The whole process is conducted over the front door inter-com. If you are staying in the apartments as we were, you have to collect your keys from the mail box on the inside of the hotel front door, which is released for you, then the voice over the inter-com gives you directions to where the apartments are, as they are not in the same building. There are also printed directions in the envelope with the keys, and infact it is easy to find as the apartments are on the side of the same building with their own enterance.

Nice clean spacious self-catering room with excellent bathroom facilities.

Very central for everything in Funchal and bus links to the rest of the island

GREAT POSITIONED ROOM-SPOTLESS

EVERYTHING

Even in Funchal it is worth straying from the tourist areas to eat and drink with locals. Very good quality & still good value and the staff are friendly and appreciative of custom. The tourist office will sell you a "tourist bus timetable" for e1.25. Quite good for maps, but getting quite out of date on times, so check times on bus stop timetables. In general bus drivers, and especially those on tourist routes, are tolerant and helpful. But hang on to your tickets, there see,ed to be lots of inspectors, or they were just following us arround.

Cheap (very cheap) and cheerfull residencia. Brilliant location. Helpful staff. Kettle & fridge in room.

These are not really negative, they just highlight what you DONT get in a budget hotel. Small rooms, wood floors no carpets so can be noisy. Little storeage. When full or with fastidious guests hot water can run out in morning for a while. Sheets and towels not changed very often. Guests smoking on balconies. and smoking drifting into adjoining rooms. So if you can cope with these things, it is perfect.

Loads to do withinin 1 mile of hotel, what you do depends on your interests. Disappointed with the food available in "tourist" restaurants nearby. Not really any variation. Worth walking to eat. Some reasonable bars for "locals" worth a try. VERY close to all bus services so excellent for travelling arround, which we did!

after a bad start with room etc,we ended up with a better room on the top floor with partial sea view , had a great week, rooms had clean towels every day and beds made up for us.coffee/tea making, small fridge,plus tv.

great location,we were lucky to have a room overlooking the square and cathedaral. clean towels and bed made up daly.

arrived early evening you buzz to get in, was told room number and key on bed.but room occupied, had to buzz again down two flights of stairs.only to be told this was your room!! .try to push it open. not a good idea ,met by a disgruntled guest, and so back down again. not what you want after a long jurney.

lots to see and do round about the hotel,about five mins to sea front,and buses to locations around the island.[ pay on bus ] about 2 euro. for most of the trips we did, plenty of eating places just off the square, cant fault location. cable car a must about five mins walk along sea front.

I have interested in using your hotel's in the future.
